A Great Sunday

Dear Blog World, Family, and Friends,
I wanted to write another Blog, and this time it isn't going to be about something on the Internet that bugs me or was fixed or anything of that nature. Katy and Annie Hall, good friends of mine, were wondering when I was going to post a real blog, and so I decided to do a real one this time. I want to write about a wonderful Sunday experience that I had this last Sunday (November 30th, 2008).

On November 30th, 2008 this Sunday was a really good day. I enjoyed Church, and felt like I learned quite a bit that day and I got to go and see friends, and do some home teaching that I really needed to get done. During this month of November, our branch is in charge of doing the Sacrament at the hospital. It has normally been a good experience. On this Sunday I saw some pretty amazing things. Nathan O. and I were partners on this particular Sunday. We went around to the different rooms offering the Sacrament to people, and one particular guy who was from Burly Idaho was very touched after we gave him the sacrament. We stood there and he said, "Brethren..." then there was a pause for a good half a minute. After he was able to get his words put together, he looked up at us with tears in his eyes and said something very special. I don't recall what he said word for word, but said that there will be people or angels thanking us one day. As I stood there, looking him in the eyes and smiling, I felt like what we were doing was very Christ-like. I felt like an angel sent to do a marvelous thing. I thought that was something very special.
We continued, and there was one room where we visited a very friendly lady, who was visiting with her daughter and grand-daughter. She had just experienced a miracle because she had a lung that collapsed earlier, and right then she was doing amazing. We blessed and gave them the sacrament, and afterwards she wanted us to give her a blessing. I asked her who she would like to give it, and she looked at me and asked me if I would. I told her that I would. I don't remember her name, but her initials were E.B. I just remember that. :) So I went ahead and gave her the blessing, and did it with the words that came to my head. Afterward she was very thankful. She also wondered how we knew that she was a member, and we explained the process and how I also overheard her talking to her grand-daughter about a sister missionary or something.
After these two experiences, it made me feel really good that day and I felt like I was forgetting myself and serving. Not just serving other people, but also serving God. In the Book of Mormon it explains: "... when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." (Mosiah 2:17) It is an amazing feeling to know that what you are doing is right and is what the Savior would do if he were there. It is a peaceful and happy feeling that makes you feel like a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ.

So to those of you who reading this, just remember how wonderful service can be, especially if our heart is set in the right place. I know that we will recieve blessings from selfless service and joy.

Wow Trevor!! I am so glad that you finally posted a "real" blog! I am so jealous that you guys got to see those people in the hospital. I wish I could do something similar. I love serving, and seeing how happy people are when you give of your time and energy for them.
